Track 1 - Next Generation SOA

Next Generation SOA represents the convergence of modern service technologies with mature SOA practices. The sessions in this track focus on how proven adoption strategies and field-tested design techniques combined with established and sophisticated service technologies and contemporary infrastructure platforms and provisioning and virtualization models have made it possible to take service-oriented solution engineering to a new level.

Room: Mees
Track 2 - SOA Architecture & Design

This classic track is focused on the physical design of services and service-oriented solutions with an emphasis on exploring service-oriented technology architecture as a distinct form of distributed architecture. Also provided are sessions that address related considerations pertaining to the architectural impact of infrastructure, the creation of design specifications, and the utilization of related technologies and practices.

Room: Diamond 1
Track 3 - Service Modeling & BPM

A fundamental part of any SOA project is the analysis required to ensure that business and technology domains are being aligned as closely as possible throughout the service delivery process. This track contains sessions dedicated to service-oriented analysis and service modeling techniques and will allow speakers to describe different approaches and proven practices for separating defining conceptual services, service portfolios, and service blueprints. A focal point among these sessions is the exploration of SOA and business process modeling approaches, including the analysis and separation of business rules.

Room: Diamond 2
Track 4 - The Business of Service-Orientation

Business strategy, funding models, business cases, and general issues related to adopting and expanding SOA and realizing service-orientation in today's economical climate are discussed in this track. The sessions are primarily geared toward CxOs, business managers, IT stakeholders, and anyone interested in how to justify investing in service-orientation, determine the right scope of SOA adoptions, measure the business value of services, and manage a service portfolio as you would a financial portfolio.

Room: Goudriaan 1
Track 5 - SOA Project Delivery & Methodology

Domain-based approaches to SOA adoption and delivery have fundamentally changed how organizations are planning SOA initiatives and how service delivery projects are being structured, staffed, and carried out. Expert speakers will discuss various modern-day methodologies and strategies in this track with a common focus on critical success factors for realizing service-orientation. Some sessions will be focused on specific project stages and project management approaches.

Room: Leeuwen 1
Track 6 - Real World SOA Case Studies

Real-life accounts of successful and failed SOA projects discussed first-hand by those that experienced the project lifecycles and have a story to tell. These veteran practitioners will provide advice and insights regarding challenges, pitfalls, proven practices, and general project information that demonstrates the intricacies of implementing and governing service-oriented solutions in the real world.

Room: Leeuwen 2
Track 7 - SOA Governance

2009 has seen the rise of SOA governance to the extent that it has been widely classified as a critical success factor in any serious SOA initiative. This track covers the individual governance of services, as well as independent collections of services (or inventories), service portfolios, and the governance and long-term evolution of service-oriented ecosystems in general. Experts speaking as part of this track will highlight the most important aspects of SOA governance, covering topics that include both organizational and technology-related governance issues.

Room: Mees
Track 8 - SOA Design Patterns & Service Engineering

Design patterns have made their way into the SOA world over the past year, providing field-tested techniques for solving common design and analysis problems. Established SOA practices and processes and the maturation of service-orientation as a distinct design paradigm have laid the groundwork for the emergence of service engineering which formalizes the art of building services and service-oriented solutions. This track explores patterns, practices, and highlights the on-going evolution of service engineering.

Room: Diamond 1
Track 9 - Modern ESB and SOA Middleware

What is the "Modern ESB"? This is the primary question addressed by the sessions in this track, which are focused on how today's ESB and middleware platforms have reached unprecedented levels of sophistication and power but also introduce new complexities and governance considerations. Some sessions will further explore connections points between modern ESB and next generation infrastructure platforms, such as service grids, cloud-based platforms, and virtualization frameworks.

Room: Diamond 2
Track 10 - Building Services-Oriented Solutions

This year we are doubling the amount of sessions dedicated to the service developer community. These two tracks are purely focused on the programming of services using the latest .NET and Java technologies, markup languages, industry standards, APIs, classes, and tools. Some speakers will provide first hand demonstrations of new development platforms and innovative programming techniques.

Room: Goudriaan 1
Track 11 - SOA & REST

REST services and related technologies and practices continue to evolve, providing a viable alternative to traditional Web services for certain types of service-oriented solution projects. This track will feature practitioners and researchers who will discuss the emerging REST platform and related patterns and approaches can be leveraged in support of realizing service-orientation.

Room: Leeuwen 1
Track 12 - Cloud Computing & SOA

This track contains sessions that address the convergence of SOA and Cloud Computing. Topics such as applying service-orientation and SOA patterns to shape and leverage Cloud-based services and service technologies are covered, as well as topics pertaining to service composition and service-oriented solution designs that incorporate Cloud-based services and resources.

Room: Penn 1
Track 13 - Cloud Computing

A broad track covering a range of general sessions about Cloud Computing in general, including delivery models, characteristics, contemporary technologies, and emerging standards and innovations. Public and private cloud models are addressed, along with IaaS, SaaS and PaaS mediums.

Room: Penn 2
Working Group #1: "Towards an SOA Manifesto"

Throughout this year has been on-going discussion among a group of SOA experts regarding the creation of an SOA manifesto along the lines of what has already been published within the agile community. During the a set of working group sessions scheduled as part of the 2nd International SOA Symposium, the working group will attempt to finalize the first draft of the SOA Manifesto, which will then be announced to all conference attendees during the closing keynote on October 23, 2009. For more information, visit the "Towards an SOA Manifesto" Working Group site at www.soa-manifesto.com.

Room: Goudriaan 2
Working Group #2: "SOA Patterns Committee"

Members of the SOA design patterns committee will be meeting during the 2nd International SOA Symposium to review candidate patterns submitted to the master SOA design patterns catalog. The candidate patterns will be assessed individually to determine whether they are ready to be promoted to the master catalog. Any promoted patterns will subsequently be moved from the candidate patterns section at SOAPatterns.org to the master pattern catalog.
