The 1st International SOA Symposium was a highly successful conference that brought together the top SOA experts and authors and established a winning blend of "substance only" speaker sessions covering diverse topics, supplemented with visionary keynotes and a variety of additional events, contests, and activities.

This Resources page allows you to freely download electronic copies of the speaker presentation files from the 2008 agenda. Additionally, over 20 hours of video footage from the conference is available via the video player on this page. (Note that both presentation PDF documents and video files are protected by copyright.)

Registrants of the 2009 International SOA Symposium will be able to access presentation files after the event via a password-protected Web page.

The on-site bookstore highlighted many of the over 40 books authored by the participating speakers. Some live entertainment during the evening drinks served after each conference day.

One of the many sessions dedicated to SOA architecture and design patterns. Taking snapshots of speakers and the venue itself was a favorite passtime. Most of the speakers were also happy to sign books and talk with attendees between sessions.
Pre-release galleys of the upcoming book 'SOA Design Patterns' were handed out after the book launch ceremony hosted by Joe McKendrick. To receive a copy, attendees had to answer a skill-testing question. Author Linda Terlouw discussing her SOA research work for the Delft University of Technology.

The exhibitors area remained the hub of activity between speaker sessions. The SOA Governance track was very popular covering topics such as policy-based management and version control.
Chris Madrid delving into various SOA infrastructure topics, including service virtualization. Author Paul C. Brown explores the convergence of SOA and BPM.
Author Cesare Pautasso explains how SOA and REST can be applied together as part of the SOA with REST track. Standing room only in the 'Architecture of Service-Orientation' session.
As part of the launch ceremony for 'SOA Design Patterns', author Clemens Utschig introduces the patterns he contributed. During every conference day there were contests. Over 400 books, 400 posters, and two Wii systems were given away.
And here is conference organizer Gert van de Donk giving away one of the Wii systems to a lucky winner. Conference committee chair Art Ligthart concludes the conference with some closing words.

Post-conference SOA certification workshops continue for several days after the symposium. Workshop participants were offered complimentary IAmsterdam passes, allowing them to explore some of the unique architecture and sights in The Netherlands.
