Paul Brown
|
|
Dr. Paul C. Brown is a software and systems architect with a deep background in the design of
distributed information systems. His early work focused on fault-tolerant real-time monitoring
and safety systems. Subsequent work on distributed decision support systems evolved into a
more general interest in the design of event-driven distributed systems using model-based
design methodologies. His model-based tool architectures are the foundation of a diverse
family of applications that design distributed control systems, process control interfaces,
internal combustion engines, and NASA satellite missions. Extensive design work on enterprise-scale
information systems led Dr. Brown to recognize that service-oriented architectures inherently
structure both business processes and information systems.
This led to the concept of Total Architecture: that business processes and information systems
must be architected together. The Total Architecture approach has proved itself building numerous
information systems for global enterprises and the Fortune-500.
Dr. Brown has authored a pair of books on Total Architecture from Addison Wesley:
'Succeeding with SOA: Realizing Business Value through Total Architecture'; and
'Implementing SOA: Total Architecture in Practice'. Dr. Brown received his BS in Electrical
Engineering from Union College, and his MS and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute. He is presently a Principal Software Architect at TIBCO Software Inc.

|
Johan Kumps is a SOASchool Certified SOA Architect - Analyst at RealDolmen, a Belgian consultancy organisation based near Brussels. For several years Johan has been involved in the service oriented analysis and design phase of several Service Oriented Architectures for both Flemish and Belgian Federal Government .
In this statute Johan designed the Federal Service Bus (FSB) platform for the Belgian Federal Government using Oracle technology. The FSB is an implementation of the Enterprise Service Bus pattern enabling different Government divisions to exchange information using SOA concepts.
Currently Johan is fulfilling the roles of SOA Architect and SOA Analyst at the Crossroad Bank Social Security (CBSS). CBSS is realizing the transition of a mainframe environment towards a new Service Oriented Architecture capable of the automation of all business process currently running on the mainframe and preparing CBSS for future changes and needs. He is involved in the business process analysis and design phase of this project.
Thanks to his everlasting interest in new things and taking what he's doing to the next level, Johan came across Semantic Web technologies a few years ago. Some time ago he realized that this new approach to the Web was becoming more and more mature. Johan started his own investigation and rapidly came across some colleagues that had already been investing time in this matter. No further convincing was necessary to make Johan see that he needed to sink his teeth in the combination of semantic technologies and service oriented principles. As a committee member of the JBoss ESB project, he started with the implementation of Semantic SOA features in the JBoss ESB platform.

Joe McKendrick
|
|
The economics of cloud computing can look enormously attractive, especially when weighing the costs of storage or processing at a few cents per instance or gigabyte, versus the tens of thousands of dollars in up-front investments required for on-site solutions. Cloud providers, both internal and external, can deliver economies of scale not available to individual enterprises. But over the long run, do these huge savings hold up or collapse for enterprises? What about the costs associated with integration, configuration, data deduplication, and monitoring?
Plus, the greatest economic shift of all enabled by service-oriented architecture and cloud computing is just starting to get underway - companies are becoming providers as well as consumers of services. This has implications for the ROI and value of cloud implementations beyond cost efficiencies and ROI.
This session will examine the economic pros and cons of on-demand versus on-site computing, and where these approaches may or may not work. The emerging role of SOA as a foundation for cloud will be explored. In addition, the lessons learned from SOA will be examined, in terms of funding services, collaboration between business and IT departments, and determining ROI from service implementations.
In addition, this session will explore the 10 top trends shaping organizations and the way they leverage information technology, from the rise of the "loosely coupled" company to the disruptive forces reshaping the vendor community.

Steve Ross-Talbot
|
|
Steve has been involved in computational science since 1975 - a long long time. He has published various papers over the years in topics ranging from query optimization to user interface design to distributed systems and formal methods. These days he works for Cognizant Technology Solutions as the European Technology Officer which is both challenging and great fun. He has a small team focussing on the future of software development and outsourcing and a larger team of Enterprse Architects who deliver to customers.
Recently (last year) he was invited to be one of the authors of the SOA Manifesto. The principle that he has been concentrating on for the past year has been "Verify that services satisfy business requirements and goals" and this is being delivered through SAVARA which applies formal methods to realise the principle.
His main interests are centered on using formal methods to build robust distributed systems and how we innovate. This is why WS-CDL, SAVARA, BPMN2 on the one hand and HoQ and TRIZ on the other are all close to his heart and form the basis for all that he does within both Cognizant and Pi4 Technologies. His aim is simply to contribute to move things forward and deliver software solutions faster, with higher quality and reduced costs and so remove us of the linearity in global delivery of software.
