About this Event
The SOA Symposium brings together SOA experts and practitioners to cover the most important topics pertaining to the wide-spread adoption of SOA in both government and industry sectors. This event is sponsored out of the US Department of Defense (DoD). The DoD has embarked on a path to implementation of SOA as a primary means to deliver increased capability by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of business operations.
Headlined by SOA thought leader Thomas Erl (Author and Founder of SOASchool.com), more than 30 speakers from government and industry will come together to share the latest insights, practices, patterns, and technology innovations as they pertain to all lifecycle phases of SOA projects.
This special event is directed at both business and technology professionals, as well as IT decision makers.
"Industry around the world has demonstrated that SOA can substantially reduce the cost of IT infrastructure while greatly improving business agility. The road to SOA must be traveled with a proven inclusive architecture that is jointly owned and managed by both the IT and the business communities in any organization. To be successful, SOA must be considered to be a team sport that involves all elements of people, process, technology and especially trust."
- Dennis Wisnosky, CTO, BMA,
US Department of Defense
This event is being delivered in cooperation with CPS Professional Services, LLC, a Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) dedicated to facilitating strategic success through business transformation. For more information contact: soasymposium@cps-ps.com.

This event will pay special tribute to the recently released SOA Design Patterns book and the launch of the SOAPatterns.org community site.
Five of the authors of this book will be speaking at the event on topics that relate to their contribution. This self-proclaimed "SOA Patterns Gang" consists of Thomas Erl, Dennis Wisnosky, Mark Little, David Chappell, Satadru Roy, Clemens Utschig, and Chris Riley. Plans are also in the works to arrange a special panel dedicated to the SOA design patterns catalog.
A special book signing and giveaway contest is planned and will be hosted by all of the authors. For more information about the SOA Design Patterns book, visit: www.soapatterns.com . To preview the patterns or to participate in the on-going development of the catalog, visit the community site at: www.soapatterns.org

Another recently released title that will be highlighted at the symposium is Web Service Contract Design & Versioning for SOA. This popular book addresses modern WS-* technologies and delves into established versioning strategies for services.
Service versioning ties into the conference topics associated with SOA governance and service evolution. Complimentary copies of this book will also be provided by Prentice Hall as part of a giveaway contest.

The books mentioned above are part of the Prentice Hall Service-Oriented Computing Series, a library of titles dedicated to SOA, service-orientation, and service-oriented computing in general. This book series is also home to the acclaimed title SOA Principles of Service Design, the title that established service-orientation design principles that were eventually adopted by the U.S. Department of Defense as part of the Business Operating Environment (BOE) strategy.
